My work is an attempt to establish a physical representation of the elusive – exploring the uncomfortable space between growth and decay/existence and non-existence. Moments of entropy or deterioration are studied, mimicked, or appropriated. My practice is an extension of the futile desire to capture life – to capture the Sublime.I contrast colors, textures, and methods of representation to parallel this tension. Watercolor and ink are used intuitively, while pen and graphite provide detailed and controlled mark making. Paper adds a sense of stability, whereas mylar and glass enhance the fragile and ephemeral quality of the work. The resulting images become unknown, abstract spaces, alluding to both macroscopic and microscopic entities.
